Athletic Bilbao Women History & Achievements

Athletic Bilbao Women, nicknamed Las Leonas (The Lionesses), is one of the most successful women's clubs in Spanish football. In its short history, the team has won the Primera División title five times (in 2002–03, 2003–04, 2004–05, 2006–07 and 2015–16) and lifted the Copa de la Reina on several occasions. The club follows the same unique cantera philosophy as Athletic Club's men's team, fielding only players who are from or have been developed in the Basque Country, which has made it a symbol of regional pride. A traditional rivalry with Real Sociedad Women produces fiercely contested Basque derbies.
