Gent History & Achievements

K.A.A. Gent, commonly known as De Buffalo’s, was originally founded in 1900 as La Gantoise. In 1971, the club merged with K.R.C. Gent to form the present-day K.A.A. Gent. The buffalo nickname dates back to the early 1900s, when Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show visited the city and inspired the club’s emblem, symbolizing strength and fighting spirit.

Gent’s greatest league triumph came in the 2014–15 season, when it secured its first Belgian Pro League championship. The club has also won the Belgian Cup three times (1963–64, 1983–84, 2009–10) and the Belgian Super Cup once (2015). In European competitions, Gent has participated in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, representing Belgian football on the international stage.

Traditional rivals include Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht. Matches against Club Brugge, often referred to as the ‘Battle of Flanders,’ are particularly intense, while clashes with Anderlecht also carry historical significance.
